Point to Point Usage & Specs...

A Point to Point T1 is the best choice for business applications such as hosting web and email servers as well as and conducting audio and video conferencing over the Internet. Because a point-2-point offers the most guaranteed dedicated connection available, this service is also recommended for companies transferring private files or using corporate VPNs and WANs.

 

A T1 connection operates at 1.544 million bits per second and allows data to travel in both directions simultaneously. If a full T1 is not needed, it can be "fractionalized" or divided into lower speed connections. Each of these fractions is 64Kbits/sec meaning that any increment of 64Kbits/sec can be selected. A point to point T1 circuit will generate an immediate alarm if it fails and the repair time is two hours or better.

 

For faster speeds, T1 lines can be combined to create a T3 connection. A full T3 is 45 megabits/sec or equivalent to 28 T1 lines combined... For further information on a T3 (DS3) circuit connection- click here.
